Delft<\/b><\/p>\n

([d\u025blft]<\/a><\/span> (\"About<\/a> listen<\/a><\/span><\/span>)<\/small>) is a city<\/a> and municipality<\/a> in the European<\/a> country of the Netherlands<\/a>. There it is located in the province of South Holland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Delft is popular tourist attraction in the country. It is home to Delft University of Technology<\/a> (“TU Delft”), regarded as center of technological research and development in the Netherlands, Delft Blue pottery<\/a> and the currently reigning House of Orange-Nassau<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Delft is located roughly between Rotterdam<\/a>, to the south, and The Hague<\/a>, to the north. Together with them, it is part of both Rotterdam\u2013The Hague Metropolitan Area<\/a> and the Randstad.<\/p>\n

Historically, thanks to the pioneering contributions of Antonie van Leeuwenhoek<\/a> and Martinus Beijerinck<\/a>, Delft can be considered to be the birthplace of microbiology<\/a> as a scientific discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n
